windows password

Hi I am cleaning a pc to give to a school. The only thing I have to do now
is... When I boot up I get a window that opens saying to enter a windows
password for the user. I thought I deleted everything that I found with his
name even in the registry. How can I get it to boot up with out asking for
password. Or Changing it to not ask for the user name and password. I
looked for profiles but can't locate them.

See the second paragraph below, specifically about deleting any files with
a PWL extension in the Windows folder.

See MS KB 152104 - "How to Prevent a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows Me
Logon Prompt at Startup" (http://support.microsoft.com?kbid=152104).

Basically you need to change to using Windows Logon in Control Panel |
Network. Then when you next log on don't enter a password (leave blank)
and click OK. If you've already allocated a password, logon and then
delete or better rename the password file in the Windows folder - this is
a file whose name is your logon name with a pwl extension.

Don't click Cancel or Escape as this will mean that you don't log on and
are instead what is called the Default User which means you won't be able
to save passwords and have access to certain features.

Hi Mike and thanks. Now when I boot up, the log on window shows but no name
is there and so I don't remember the password. IS there any other way to get
rid of the log on window. I followed microsoft 152104 to #4. but since I
don't remember the password I can't continue.

Enter whatever name takes your fancy and no password and click OK rather
than escape or cancel.
