I have set up a small home network to connect 4
computers. Two of the computers are running Windows XP
and 2 are running Windows ME. One Windows ME computer can
see all 4 computers, but the other Windows ME only see's
the one computer that is running Windows ME. Also the 2
Windows XP computers can only see the one running Windows
ME that see's all 4. What is missing or needs to be set
up so that the XP computers can see this one Windows ME pc
and vice versa?
Thank you

Can you tell us more about the hardware/equipment setup
you are using.....a network hub...NIC/adaptercards in each
machine....a router....Internet access via DSL modem...via
dial up modems...etc.etc.?

These tips should help you get everything working:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/...c_firewall.htm

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/..._protocols.htm

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.
Details here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)

I am using a network hub with nic cards in each machine,
no router and no internet access in the one acting up.
All 3 of the other computers have AOL dial up modem
connections.
