I am trying to connect to AOL for broadband. I had a tech
install the cable modem and ethernet card. Here is the
problem, device manager knows the ethernet card, but the
winip software does not. It say NDIS 5.0 driver instead
of the realteck card. Any suggestions to correct this
problem???

My guess is that NDIS 5.0 is your Realtek card. I believe your problem lies
elsewhere.

No I was told it should show the realtek card and also
obtain an ip address from the AOL DHCP server.

The problem here is assuming the person who told you that actually knew what
they were talking about.

Yes, you should be able to obtain an IP address from AOL, however, if your
card says NDIS 5.0 then it means it loaded a generic driver for it. This may
or may not be a problem. Many manufacturers do not alter the reference
driver from the chipset manufacturer. As a result, it's quite common to see
the generic name on all sorts of hardware.

Does the card show any problems in the device manager?

Did you load the drivers that came with the card?

Have you talked to someone else to see if they tell you anything
differently? (Don't lead them on...let them tell you on their own and see if
the two stories are even identical).

i download an updated version for the Realtek 8139 card,
but still not able to connect to AOL. The tech said that
there was a software problem. Device manager shows the
card will not problem. I even reloaded ME from the CD.

Definitely sounds like it could be a software problem, but it doesn't appear
to be a driver issue. I suggest you run a spyware checker
(www.lavasoftusa.com) and remove any unnecessary programs from starting when
Windows starts using MSCONFIG.

What I have found is that dial up networking has 0.0 mb
when I check it from the Add/Remove programs. That is
what AOL says the problem is. I need to know how to
recover it. i have reloaded ME twice with no help. Any
suggestions.
