Windows Logon problem

Hope somebody can help. I've just done a clean install of Win 98 to new hard
drive, setting up Client for MS Networks, TCP/IP etc. as it installed.

The network to my other machine works fine. Its just that as I boot up I get
the Windows logon box, then it goes away, but I have to log off and then on
again to get the network connection.

It's just a bit of a pain. The network client is set as the logon in Network
settings in Control Panel.

Thanks - Steve

Using REGEDIT, open up the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\
Network\Real Mode Net

and delete the value named "AutoLogon" if it exists.

Reboot the system and that should do it.

Hi Richard. Under Real Mode Net I don't have AutoLogon. I've got:
(Default) Value not set
LoadRMDrivers 00 00 00 00
netcard ""
preferredredir "VREDIR"
transport ""

Does that give any clues?

Not to me, but maybe someone else will have a thought.

Eureka!! I stumbled across the answer on the MS Knowledgebase. Its 260696
titled Desktop May Appear Before You Can Log On.

Cause: This issue can be caused by installing the CeQuadrat software that is
included with the Phillips CD-Writer software.

To resolve this issue, delete the Show Splash value from the following
registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CeQuadrat\C2UDFFS
Which I have done and problem is solved. Now boots straight through to
Network Logon. Hope this may be useful to any Philips CD owners.

Steve

I'm glad you were able to find it, because I don't think I ever would have.

On another related point, is it possible to just get rid of having to log on
to the network, so that I can just start the machine and walk away and it
logs on automatically?

Thanks Richard. Before I mess around do you know if that applies to the
Network Logon as well as the Windows Logon, or am I being daft?
