Hi,

This might be an interesting problem.

I have a nice Windows laptop, a P-166 (Debian) Linux system, an a
wireless router.

I would like to stream all my audio of my laptop (music, system sound,
etc.) to the Linux system, which has a decent sound card connected to
nice speakers.

The reason for doing so is that I can move from places to places in my
room with my laptop but can still listen to the music from the nice
speakers. Now, I know 1 way of doing it is to set up a MP3 stream server
on my laptop and "tune" my Linux box to listen to the server. However, I
feel that it is an overkill: I have to spend CPU time encoding/deconding
MP3 stream within a private 100Mbits network.

Does anyone know of a better way of doing this?

BL

PS I know I can buy a wireless audio server, but I'm not rich enough.

I checked out the website, and eventually found this link

http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html

There is a list of input to choose from. Which one of them requires the
minimal encoding/decoding for streaming of all system sound?

Thanks

And?
Who cares ?
As long as the Debian box can cut it, who gives a crap whether it takes
10% or 90% cpu ?
Of course, you can opt for the oh so far more economical streaming of
raw WAV and store those beauties on the Winders machine - albeit for
1100% of the storage space you need for mp3's....

I'd cut my losses and stop complaining.
