Windows Firewall Domain Policy

I have a Windows SBS 2003 with about 5 Windows XP workstations. While at
the workstations, if I go to Control Panel, then Windows Firewall, it shows
the Firewall as "Disabled" and the option to Enable is grayed out. It says
that this is controlled by my "Domain Settings". I checked my server and
there are no Group Policies in place. Where exactly do I find this setting
on my SBS 2003?

Thanks.

Hello,

you should issue a gpo result through the gpmc.msc to double check.
The default is to have the firewall up.

Try running gpedit.msc on the server. Are you saying that nothing appears
regarding group policies? You don't see Comp Config--Windows
Settings--Security settings--Windows Firewall?

There are group policies in place, even if you haven't customized them. I
suggest you post in microsoft.public.windows.server.sbs - SBS does a lot of
things its own way.

On one of the XP domain computers enter rsop.msc in the run box to run a
report of applied Group Policy settings for computer configuration and it
will tell you which GPO is applying the setting. If you decide to enable the
firewall I would at least leave the exception for file and print sharing and
remote management for at least the IP address of the domain controller as it
is useful for many things such as Remote Management and if you have AV on
your server for the client computers.
