Hi,

I have a network with one Linux DHCP server, and Windows 2003 DNS
server...
Once a station gets an IP, how can I make sure the DNS is updated?

Thanks,
Daniel

What do you mean by "updated". Normally, a computer will retain the IP
address, until it releases it. During that time, the lease may be
automagically renewed.

James, he's asking about Dynamic DNS updates. Where the DNS name->address
map is modified when the DHCP server hands out an IP address. This works
for clients who know their names (often unqualified) but receive their
addresses (and sometimes domain suffix) when they plug in.

Well, just for the pointer, you might try using BIND/DHCPD combinations
first, then move to win2k DDNS. I guess, DHCPD won't be able to update
the win2k DDNS.

This might help you on BIND/DHCPD solution.

Thanks...
Its good, but I am not sure if it would work with Win2k AD...

Is there a way to update DNS through the command line?
like dhcpcd -n renew ip address from dhcp.

Hi,
yes it will work with Win2k. But you should not use the AD DNS (it is crap
anyways). As Raqeeb already said, you can set up a Bind DNS server and make
it host the master zone. On your windows box, set up a slave nameserver.
You will have to configure both DNS servers to allow the master to
replicate to the slave, and allow the slave to receive updates from the
master.
Pay attention to the bind version to use, some are more tricky than others
when playing together with WinDns. Alex
