Hi.....

I'm trying to gather some info on Win2k3 DHCP servers but can't find
any.....

Were implmenting AD with AD integrated DNS servers and contemplating
the benefits of having our DHCP server integrated with AD or not... but
I can't seem to find any info on this.....

Can anyone point me in the right direction or tell me what are the
benefits of having a Win2k3 DHCP intgrated with AD and if not and
working as a standalone DHCP server

Cheers.....

DHCP integrated in AD? never heard of such a thing
each DHCP server has its own database, indepedent of AD

What I mean is having the DHCP be a standalone server of have it join
the AD domain...?

the dhcp server should be a member server of the domain; it has to be
authorized in AD to run
the dhcp server would only be a standalone server if you didn't have a
domain and it existed in a workgroup environment

Yeah thats what I meant sorry.........

So if I have a domain with the DHCP being a member server, what are the
visble benfits other than the thing about dynamic updates with DNS...
and easier management......

That compared with having the DHCP server be a standalone workgroup
DHCP service enabled....

Cheers...

The authorization process helps in rouge server detection as well.
Microsoft DHCP server service will stop once it finds that its connected to
the domain and is not authorized.
This feature is however not there if the server is just a standalone server
in a workgroupenvironment.

Thanks,
