Windows 98SE and Long File Names

On my Windows 98 SE workstations, I have a drive mapped to
a file share on a W2k3 SBS server. When I log in, the
drive mapping is automatically recreated. When I try to
save a file with a long file name to that drive, it gives
me the error that tells me that the drive doesn't support
long file names.
If I disconnect from the mapped drive, and re-create the
drive mapping, I can then successfully save the file with
a long file name.
Has anyone seen this before? I have an XP machine that I
need to test this with, but at least all of the Win98Se
machines have this issue.
