Windows 98 with Server 2003

We need to join a Windows98 computer to a Windows 2003 domain. Having
never done this, and having not yet attempted, will it be possible?

But you will not have full functionality.

Yes, install INSTMSIA.exe from Microsoft, then reboot, install AD
extensions for 98 clients from Microsoft, reboot, install Active directory
Services for 98. You will have to also install IE5.5 SP2 somewhere in that
process. We do it here and it works ok. then the machine can use AD
credentials to logon and use network services.
