I have small network, two Windows XP machines and one
Windows 98. When I browse XP machines from Win98 computer,
I can see only one Shared Documents folder, all aother is
invisible, OK, when I browse my Windows 98 machine from
XP computers, I see all folders. How to make that only
one "Shared Documents' folder could be visible on Windows
98 machine(the same as in Windows XP machines) and hide
all other folders from network ?

Thanks

A disk or folder is only visible on the network if it has been
explicitly configured as a shared disk or folder. If you don't want
it to be visible, un-share it. In My Computer or Windows Explorer, a
shared disk or folder has a hand under its icon. To un-share it,
right click it, click Sharing, and click Not Shared.

An easy way to create a Shared Documents folder on Windows 98 is to
run the Windows XP Network Setup Wizard on Windows 98, which does it
automatically. However, you don't need to run the Wizard -- you can
create a shared documents folder anywhere on the disk and share it.
Make the share name "SharedDocs" so that it can be seen on other
computers on the network.

Hi Steve,

I installed the Network Setup Wizard on my Win 98 computer about 2
months ago and ever since the computer freezes regularly. I can't do
anything (including ctrl-alt-del), but the mouse does move the cursor.
If I wait until the laptop goes into standby mode, I get a "Internet
Gateway Status" not responding error. Does this have anything to do
with the Network Setup Wizard I installed (from a newly purchased XP
computer which advise me to install it on my Win 98 computer)? If so,
how do I remove it?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, David. You can remove the program that the Wizard installed on
Win 98 and see if that helps:

1. Go to Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs.
2. Click Windows Setup.
3. Click Communications.
4. Un-check "Universal Plug and Play".

That program creates the Internet Gateway icon, and it isn't necessary
for networking.
