I have 2 computers running windows 7 that I wish to network using a
wired router and I've never done this in windows 7. I had it working in
XP, but I can't get it to work just by sharing folders in Windows 7.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

If windows 7 did set up home network it will not work with XP, All PCS using home network must be WIN7 Home Premium or better.
You need to delete that network and set up you own the way you had it in XP. Since that worked you should have no problem setting it up again.
