Hello Arne,

Is the server domain member or workgroup server? How do you try to connect,
mapping with UNC path?

Best regards

I do not have a domain server. I am trying to find out how I can make sure
that my server is configured as a work group server.
I am trying to connect with mappping to a UNC path.

Hello Arne,

You where talking about a domain, that's the reason for the question. Do
you mean security for the share? Depends what the user should be able to
do in that folder. I assume they should not logon to the server itself?

Hello Arne,

Can you ping the server by computername and ip address?

How are the share permissions and the NTFS permissions on the share?

Any firewalls enabled?

Best regards

The server has a firewall with 500 settings. I don't know where to start. Do
you know what to change?
Ping Pinging ACE [fe80::e1c3:ed32:d0b6:fded%10] from
fe80::e1cc:9f0d:de74:c73a%10 wit
h 32 bytes of data:
Destination host unreachable.

This may not be what you want to hear, but "workgroup" and "security" don't
really belong in the same sentence, IMHO.

Hello Arne,

For the beginning start with disabling the firewall, to see if full connectivity
exists.

Do you have a better word for workgroup access?
My Server 2008 is at home and it is very small risk that anyone would get
access.
