Would appreciate any feedback from those of you who have rolled out sp2 in
your networking environment. We are getting ready to...

Cincy, I recently had a very successful rollout of SP2. First I got all the
XP workstations and put them into one group, since we have some 2000 Pro
workstations also. After that I downloaded SP2, and used the msi. file to
push it out through Group Policy. I then forced a remote shutdown of the
systems at the end of the day and when they rebooted it installs.

Did the firewall that comes with SP2 cause any problems?

Not really other than some programs not working. You have to go in and
configure the exceptions. And another thing, for instance, if a workstation
has the firewall enabled, you cannot simply ping that computer without some
configuration. I manage the firewall settings from my computer for all the
computer users!!

How do you manage the exceptions remotely? Group policies, or something
like that?

We have an AD domain here and will be rolling SP2 in our somewhat near
future, and this firewall stuff is one of my concerns.

Thanks for your replies.
