I posed this question on the general forum before I saw
the networking board.

New windows 2003 Server. 2 New XP Pro Clients. 15
existing 2000 Pro workstations. The 2 XP machines take
like 1 minute or more to open network files (on a mapped
drive). It seems that it happens the first time each
file is opened and then it is fine until the next reboot.

Any suggestions?

(E-Mail Removed) is my Email.

Check the DNS settings. It's a very common problem, specially when the
domain is on a W2k Server; WinXP can take several minutes to resolve the
DNS.

Tried some DNS stuff. Even tried putting info in Host file. Its a Windows
2003 Server, no W2K server anywhere.

The long time resolving the DNS problem remains... try setting the clients
with a fixed DNS address.

I had static DNS addresses set, but I will try it again. Who knows what
combo it was in.

Will try and report back. Thank you
