Hello,

I have installed Windows Vista to a client computer. When I'm trying access (from Vista) windows share on W2003, I get error "0x80070035, The network path was not found"

I haven't found any relevant solution...only something like "check you firewall settings...etc"

There is quite a lot of people with this problem, but no good solution.

Could someone help me?

Thank you for responses

Is this with Windows Server 2003 SP2? I think that does cause a problem
for Vista. I will try to find where I saw it discussed.

Here you go Bill.... But keep in mind, if JULO's machines are using their
ISP's DNS addresses instead of or mixed with their internal DNS server, the
same errors will occur along with numerous other errors.

Perform the following before un-joining it from the domain:

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Reboot the machine. Then re-join. Reboot.

So...on my W2003 I have only SP1 installed and computer with windows Vista(x64) is not connected to domain.
Before 3 days everything worked fine...but then, without any reason (maybe some update installed, but not SP2) it stopped working.
I tried to apply these two commands and restart, but it didnt help and sharing from Vista is not working

netsh interface tcp set global rss=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

Any ideas?

Actually those commands are meant for Vista to communicate with a DC with
SP2. No harm in leaving them.

From Vista, try this:
Assuming the following:
2003 DC name is "dc"
domain name is: 'domain.com'
DC's ip is 192.168.1.5

ping dc
ping dc.domain.com
ping 192.168.1.5

nslookup domain.com (this should return 192.168.1.5)
nslookup dc (should do the same thing)

do they work?

Can you post an ipconfig /all from the DC and from the Vista machine please?
That will help us to take a closer look at the two machine's config to get
eliminate any possible misconfiguration.

Thanks,
Ace

At first....my windows 2003 is not DC. It is single computer without any domain services installed and also my Vista is not joined into any domain.

From Vista, I'm trying to connect typing in Run \\ipOfServer\\c$ .....etc. It worked before, it works from the server, but not from Vista

Thanks for any ideas

//I sent you an email with my ipconfig /all output

I didn't receive the email.

It should work from Vista. Check the firewall settings see if it is allowing
that type of traffic. By default, all of that is turned off.

The problem still remains even the firewalls are turned off.

Is there any way how to get some detailed information about the error ? Or some tcp log ... whatever what can be used to solve the problem.

Because there is nothing in system log and the "Network path was not found" is not good enough for me. Also error code says nothing. And there must be some reason why it doesn't work.

Please post your ipconfig /all of the two machines here PLEASE. Since it is
a private address (assuming so), it won't be a security issue.

"Network path not found" can be either simply a firewall is blocking
traffic, the machine has no IP address or incorrect mask, if trying to
connect by name, then I would imagine NetBIOS traffic is blocked or
disabled, etc. There are numerous reasons why this can occur. To determine
WHAT the problem is would require some testing.

Go back to my other post where I asked you if you can use the ping and
nslookup commands to test network connectivity. Your responses to those
tests/questions will greatly help.

Ace
