I have a Windows 2003 Standard Edition Server Running Microsoft Exchange
2003, McAfee GroupShield, McAfee Virusscan 8.0 Patch 10 and Verities Backup
Exec on an HP ML370 All Band New. The Server is unable to Ping one Device on
my Network. I have run a packet sniffer between the Two devices and I can
see the Echo Request from the Server and the Echo Reply from the Device.
However the Server times out. I have checked that the Windows Firewall Is
Disabled, That there is no Ip Filtering enabled and all looks fine. Also The
server can successfully ping other Devices on the network. I can also ping
the Problematic Device from other Servers And it works Fine. I have No Idea
what to try Next this is our only Exchange Server and the Device with the
Problem is a mail enabled Device. has anyone ever seen something like this
before. I also have eliminated the possibility of a switch failure using a
10Mbit hub directly connected to the Two Devices.

Any Help would be Appreciated. I have tried the Device vendor and they and
I are now sure the problem is not in the device.

HELP??????????????

Alex Reid

Alex that sounds a little confusing which can happen sometimes. It seems
like you have tried most things to get it working. I would of course check
to make sure my DNS settings between both boxex are correct, if that still
does not work and you are still having a hard time finding the solution and
mail becomes an issue i would edit the host file of the machine and place the
exchange server ip and name info in that host file. If you are unable to
ping then there seems to be a bigger problem.
