Hello all,

Recently it has been decided by the powers that be that our
organizations' DHCP services will be migrated from our Cisco Catalyst
switches off to a Microsoft-based DHCP server. After reviewing our
current configurations from the Cisco equipment, and the requirements
that we have some sort of redundancy in place for DHCP, I have decided
that utilizing 2 of our 3 domain controllers to operate in a DHCP
cluster would be the best configuration for our needs. Could anyone
provide me with any information on the amount of overhead that DHCP
clustering will place on a domain controller? One of the DC's in
question is operating as a global catalog, and the other is currently
holding our Infrastructure Master FSMO role. From what I have been
reading via Technet, DHCP services will generate very low overhead on
the servers it is installed on but I know this is entirely dependent
upon the configuration. As it stands, we are looking at this DHCP
cluster managing 49-50 scopes which contain the maximum number of
available addresses for a Class C subnet. Overall, we are looking at
about 1000 clients online at any given time. If anyone could provide
any information for me, or even possible suggestions or recommendations
it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

-David
