Hello,

After having updated the antivirus software and run a Windows Update on
a windows 2003 Terminal server, I have lost the possibility to manage
the network connections.

When I right-click on the My Network Places and chose properties,
nothing happens any more. I can't start it from the control panel neither.

The service "Network connections" is not started, but I can't start it.
The command will fail complaining that the service did not respond on time.

From now on, Internet explorer cannot connect to the internet any more.

Could anyone help me to restore the normal behaviour ?

Best regards,
Vincent

Do you use APC UPS? If so check the version of the software that you are
using. If it is Ver. 6.x then it has expired. Disable the service and
reboot. Uninstall it. Download and install Ver. 7.

Thanks a lot Todd, you saved my day ! I spent about two hours trying to
figure out what was going on, and I struggled with the antivirus
software trying to uninstall and reinstall it, which did not go so well.

I have installed version 7.04 of the APC service now and everything
seems back to order.

Now I wonder how such a thing can happen. Why is it that a program that
I only use to communicate through the serial interface breaks my whole
network connections, just by becoming obsolete ? At least I would have
appreciated to receive a prior notification from APC, but this never
happened.

Without your help I doubt that I would have guessed what the culprit
was, especially as almost nothing responded anymore inside the services
mmc console and that nothing was reported by the events manager :-/

Again thank you for this valuable help,
Sincerely,
Vincent
