Windows 2000, IP Address expires

My router is set so that IP addresses never expire, but the one machine in my
house running Windows 2000 can't seem to recognize this. I run the ipconfig
under the dos prompt, and it says that the IP address is set to expire the
next day.

The problem is that this machine needs to be re-booted every day in order to
have Internet access. Is there a way that I can change settings to fix this
problem? I like to have the machine automatically update antivirus and other
things at odd hours, but find it doesn't happen because the machine lost
access to the Internet.

I tried setting the computer to use a static IP address (the one that the
router consistently assigns to this computer), but that didn't help. It
still needs to be re-booted.

I am more familiar with Windows 95, 98, ME, and XP. Windows 2000 just
confuses me...

Hello Michelle,

Two options i think: the router has a problem, is it uptodate with the system
software? The other is you 2000, which patchlevel do you have. An what router
did you use?

Best regards

I don't believe the router has a problem, because I have no problem with the
other three computers in the house. The router is a Belkin F5D6231-4
wireless. The computer in question has a wireless LAN card and a plug-in LAN
card as well. When I have repbooted and the computer is using the router, it
prefers the wireless, even if the other is plugged in.

I don't know what you mean by patch level. How do I determine this?

Hello Michelle,

Which service pack and the patches from MS from the internet. If you only
will use the cable then just disable the wireless connector.

Best regards

The cable doesn't seem to work at all, and it would mean running a cord down
the hallway in this house built in 1910. I prefer not to do that.

It's Windows 2000 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4
