I am a little lost and need some ideas. Any help is appreciated.

Simple network of 2 PC's. One desktop and one laptop.

PC#1 is an older eMachine desktop running Win98Se
This PC is connected to a Hawking HWR54G Hi-Speed Wireless-G Router using a
CAT5 cable.

PC#2 is new Dell laptop running XP home. It has an internal network card.

Here is where I am. I have both PC's working for file and printer sharing. I
do not have a broadband connection yet (that is coming later, thus the
router) but I would like to share the dialup connection on the desktop
(PC#1) with the laptop so I can surf from both PC's at the same time. I know
it will be painfully slow, but I still want to get it setup if it is
possible.

I was thinking about using the ICS with Win98SE but I am not sure how I
could go about setting that up when the router is assigning the IP
addresses. I set this up once on a wired network without a router and I
remember having a lot of issues about having to use specific IP addresses to
make the NAT work. It has been quite a while since I did that one and I
thought I would bounce this one off of you experts before I messed it all
up. It may not even be possible, but it never hurts to ask.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I am not afraid to try things but I
am no expert either so please don't be afraid to leave plenty of details for
me.

First, configure the router so that its ip address is 192.168.0.254
and mask 255.255.255.0 and switch the dhcp service off.

Then install ics (on the 98se). It will automatically zap your
existing ip configuration and change it to a static 192.168.0.1 mask
255.255.255.0

Leave the other computer set to automatically obtain an ip address. It
will now get this from the 98se not from the router. The router will
operate only as a switch.

Jim.

Worked like a charm.
All I had to do was disable the DHCP and reinstall ICS on the W98se
computer.
I had forgotten that the ICS basically became the DHCP server.
Made total sense once you pointed it out.
Thanks.
