When I tried to set the router as the DNS, the TCP/IP
configuration demanded a Host Name - what to do then?
Assuming that could be filled in,then suppose it demanded a Domain
Name - what to do then?
I am trying to commission an Olivetti 510 running 98SE (333 MHz Laptop)
with a PCMCIA 100/10MBit NIC onto my network.
Up till yesterday, it would come onto the network and had Internet
access.
Yesterday I moved it into another room (UTP cable had already been
tested with a different PC) and it ceased to work at all, even when
bringing it back to its original location.
Now, (checked using ipconfig/all) it does not even pick up a valid
IP address from the router, where it used to. I tried assigning a static
IP address in the router's range, and could access the router's own
pages, but attempts to configure DNS (having already set the gateway to
be the router's IP address) and hit the above DNS configuration snag.
1. Why would the laptop suddenly stop DHCPing from the router?
2. What about Host and Domain names for configuring DNS?
