I have an ADSL modem (conexant, 4 port+1 usb, 1 port linked to a 16 port
switch) that is configured as DHCP server (IP:192.168.1.1, pool is
192.168.1.2-192.168.1.127, dynamic NAPT, dns proxy (not server)...
I have no problem with XPs, they can get their host information whenever my
modem broadcasts, so that they seamlessly get new IPs even when I change the
IP of the router (ADSL modem) through live-connection....
But 98se clients are configure with subnet mask 255.0.0.0 sometimes, they
still access the Internet, but no access to the network. I then
winipcfg-refresh IP dhcp-client, and everything is ok....so what's the
problem?
(network cards are different brands)

Have you tried disabling DHCP and assigning IP and Subnet mask to each
machine?
