XP's Network Setup Wizard sometimes can't find the network adapter on
another computer, probably because of a bug in the driver program for
the network adapter.
Fortunately, it's never necessary to use the Wizard, because you can
make all of the network settings manually. Since Internet access is
already working, all you need to do to get file and printer sharing
working on 98SE is to go to Control Panel | Network and:
1. Add these network components if they aren't already present:
Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
2. Remove these network components if they're present:
IPX/SPX protocol
NetBEUI protocol
Client for NetWare networks
3. Set the workgroup name to the same name as the Windows XP computer
uses (default for XP is MSHOME). This step isn't strictly necessary,
but it makes accessing other computers a little easier.
