Hi,
I too am having problems after adding winXP to a
functioning win98 network. Two win98 computers on a
network with a broadband (cable)connection and a 4 port
router all linksys equipment. The network works fine, then
introduce the new winXP computer to the network, run all
wizards on all computers everything goes good , all
computers can connect to the internet and their e-mail
accounts, winXP computer can see both win98 computers,
win98 computers cannot see winXP computer or each other.
When winXP computer is off line win98 computers can see
each other fine. All settings are set to be obtained
automatically. One thing I noticed the gateway speed on
the winXP computer is 100mbs the win98 computers 3.2mbs?
I checked the reg key for "AUTOLOGON" it wasn't there.
I disabled the firewall in winXP, this made no difference.
Do I need to configure the network settings manually? Is
there something I need to do because I connect through a
gateway (router)?

Appreciate It
Bill

WinXP is reporting the maximum rated speed of its connection to the
Linksys router. I've seen reports that the value of 3.2 is due to a
bug in the router's firmware. The problem only affects the reported
speed, not the actual speed. A firmware upgrade might fix it.

Make sure that XP's Internet Connection Firewall is disabled. It's
for use only on a direct modem connection to the Internet, not on a
connection to a router:

1. Open the Network Connections folder.
2. Right click the local area network connection.
3. Click Properties.
4. Click Advanced.
5. Un-check the ICF box.

For the network browsing problem, try disabling the Computer Browser
service on XP:

1. Right click My Computer, and click Manage.
2. Double click Services and Applications.
3. Double click Services.
4. Double click Computer Browser. If the Service status is Started,
click Stop.
5. Set the Startup type to Disabled.

These fixes did not work for me I still cannot see or
access the XP computer from the 98 computers or eachother
when the XP computer is up on the network, but I can see
and access the 98 computers from the XP computer.
