Win98 to Win2000 Workgroup

I have been having a similar problem with accessing shared
folders on my Win2000Pro machine from my Win98.

I can share a folder on Win2000Pro for access by my Win98
computer, but when I check in Network Neighborhood for the
shared folder from Win2000pro, it doesn't show it.

I have a workgroup set up between the two systems. I can
ping either machine from the other. I know I have a good
connection between them, I just can't seem to get my Win98
machine to display the win2000pro share folder I created.

Any possible suggestions as to why this is happening and
what I can do to fix the problem?

Shared folders don't appear in Network Neighborhood -- computers do.
If the Win2000Pro computer appears, click it to see its shared
folders. If it doesn't appear, try accessing the shared folder
directly by typing this in the Start | Run box:

\\computer\share

Substitute the Win2000Pro computer's name and the shared folder's
name.

If that doesn't work, try pinging the Win2000Pro computer by name:

ping computer

If that doesn't work, make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on
both computers, as shown here:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)

When I go into network neighborhood on my win98 system, a
win98 icon, a win2000pro icon, and an icon representing
the 'Entire Network' can be seen. When I double-click on
the win2000pro icon, I get a blank window.

When I go into My Network Places on my win2000pro system
and click on 'Computers Near Me' followed by the
win2000pro icon, the 'My Documents' folder appears there
as a shared folder.

Typing the UNC for the win2000pro share in the Run
(\\win2000pro\My Documents) from my win98 system: displays
a win2000pro window, but with nothing in it.

I am trying to access this share from my win98 system
under the account name Doug Martin, which I have set up on
both systems.

What's happening doesn't make any sense to me. I've tried
everything.

Make sure the permissions on the share include the user you're
trying to access it from. "Everyone" isn't enough -- that
just shares it to a user named "Everyone."
