Ok Fixed It
The fix which worked was...
1) remove Netbeui on the Ethernet adaptor and modem
2) Disble the modem
3) Disable the 2 unidentified hardware devices sitting in the device list
4) Reboot
5) Get bored with Win98 and lack of progress and install Win98 games from
Win98SE CD
6) Browse network and fall over in suprise when it all started working
7) Reboot and just check again
Then just to check it:
Ok once I had done this I can see the computer sitting in its workgroup and
I can share its directories with other computers
Ok I admit the installation of solitaire was an inspired guess

) and
probably had damn all to do with it working...
The question is will it remain working when returned to the client?? As you
may guess I am not taking bets
Thank God Win98 is generally headed for the skip!!
The reason I dumped all my Win98 machines and moved over to XP was problems
with networking reliability. So for serious useage dont waste time and
effort on this, just go out and buy a new tower unit with WinXP on it...it
makes more sense.
