We have 2 Windows NT 4.0 machines, 1 Windows 98SE machine and a new Windows
XP Pro machine that was just added this week. All 4 devices are attached to
a Linksys 4-port router. I'm not too concerned about the NT PC but we would
like the Win98 PC to be able to print to a printer attached to the XP Pro
machine.

Right now all machines are members of the Mywkgrp workgroup and the XP
machine can see every PC and every share out there. The Windows 98 PC
however is a problem as it can see no one. If I open the network
neighborhood and try to browse the network by double-clicking Network
Neighborhood, I can only see the Entire Network icon. Also, if I
double-click the Entire Network, I receive the following error message:

Unable to browse the network. The network is not accessible.

Note the following:

I have completely uninstalled the network card and reinstalled the machine.

I have TCP/IP installed on all PC's and client for Microsoft's networks
installed.

I have file and print sharing installed on the Win98 and XP machines..

I can aquire an IP address from the router and I can successfully ping other
machines connected to the router.

I created a secondary, shared printer on the XP machine and made sure that
the printer names were short.

I created a user account on the Windows 98 PC called "guest" and it has no
PSWD

If I try and create a mapped network drive on the Windows 98 PC using a UNC
path to the Windows XP machine, Windows 98 says that I must be logged on to
make this happen.

Although I have two userids on the Windows 98 PC (Joe Smith and Guest),
neither of these has a password.

When I start the Win98 machine, I am not seeing any kind of logon screen.

Bottom line is that everyone can "see" everyone else by Windows 98 see's
nobody. Can someone help?

by default the "guest" account is disabled.
what do you see when you click start > logoff.... on the win98se pc?
try creating a user in xp with a pswd
then use that user/pswd combo on the win98 pc.

A very good site relating to networking problems can be found here:

Good luck.
