Win98 networking - cannot browse network

I have 5 machines, 4 connected wirelessly with a router,
and 1 hardwired. They can all ping one another, but I am
unable to browse network neighborhood. I need to share
files and 2 printers. Help!! Very frustrated...

I really appreciate it!!!

Not being able to browse the network will not prevent you from being able to
share folders and printers. Try this simple test - start up and (if
necessary) log onto every computer on your network, then walk away from the
computers and do something else for at least 15 minutes. If, on your
return, you can browse the network your problem is simply the wait for the
network to elect a browse master.

I've done that. I still cannot get to folders or shared
printers. Would it matter that the machines are getting
their IPs via DHCP from the wireless router?

Any thoughts? I appreciate it!!!

the operating system is a major factor here. If you are running 2k or XP, open run from the start menu and type a IP address of one of the other computers with the default c$ share.
Example: \\127.0.0.1\c
if this works, then your problem could be WINS related

If you are running XP on these machines, check to see if you internet connection firewall is enabled.

If by some chance you are running WIN98, make sure sharing is setup. If you need help on this let me know

I hope i've been some help.

That shouldn't make a difference if they're all getting valid IP addresses -
since you can ping from any one PC to the other it seems that they are
getting valid addresses. Do all the computers have File and Printer Sharing
installed and have at least one item shared?

One PC is sharing a printer. File/Printer sharing is
enabled. And yes, they can ping. I just cannot get them
to see files shared or printers shared.

I too have a sharing problem. Trying to print and file
share between Windows XP Pro and a machine running Windows
98 SE. The internet connection is good through a wireless
PCI card and router. I ran the Windows XP file,
netsetup.exe on the 98 SE machine. Got an error message
that the hareware wizard could not identify my network
card and shut down before all configurations were made. I
don't know what to do next...
Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions are greatly needed!
