I have a peer to peer network with 4 machines, 2 XP home
and 2 Win98se. 1 & 2 are XP and 3 & 4 are win98. 1, 2, & 3
can see each other fine. 3 & 4 can see each other fine.
But 1 & 2 can't see 4 and vice versa. The one difference
I can see in 3 & 4 is that 4 has AOL 8.0 installed and AOL
things like VPN are listed in the network properties.
Could that be the problem or am I overlooking something?
Thanks in advance.

These tips should help you get everything working:

1. Permanently disable XP's built-in Internet Connection Firewall on
local area network connections -- it's for use only on a direct modem
connection to the Internet. Disable and un-install all other
firewalls while troubleshooting. Details here:

2. Use only one protocol for File and Printer Sharing. If the network
needs more than one protocol, unbind File and Printer Sharing from all
but one of them. Details here:

Windows XP Network Protocols

3. Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on all computers.

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)
