We have:

PII @ 350mhz Windows 98FE

PIII @ 500mhz Windows 98SE

Telephone company provides DSL service in our communtity.

They will provide:

DSL modem

software.
---------------------------------

Please let me know if we are on the right track.

To network the two computers on a _wired_ network we have to purchase:

[Linksys] Etherfast Cable/DSL Router with 4 port

[Linksys] USB Network Adapter 100M Etherfast (2) - as an alternative to
opening tower of both computers and installing a ethernet card.

Cable

To hook up:

DSL modem goes into phone jack and Router goes into modem.

The USB Network Adapters go into the USB ports of _each_ computer and out to
the router.
-------------------------

Please advise if this is the necessary steps.

Thanks again for your time.
E.

sounds right ....just make sure you have proper drivers for the USB network
adapters for BOTH (FE and SE)
some only work well with SE

you didn't mention it , but i assume you have in mind the cat5 cables for
USB to router :>

Not sure I understand.

How would I go about checking if the proper drivers are installed - or would
they be installed with router, adapter and/or DSL software?

Thank you for your time.
Best...
E.

when you go to buy the USB nic's (network interface card) be sure it is
compatible with win98FE and SE (it should be stated by the manufacturer)

router software should have no impact on which OS you are using

other than that ...you should have everything you need :> enjoy!

That setup should work fine. However, I recommend buying a different
brand. I've had repeated problems, over several years, getting
Linksys network adapters to install and work properly on Windows 98
and other Windows versions. I prefer Netgear, D-Link, and Belkin.
