We have been having a problem with win98 pc's pulling the wrong subnet mask
from a 2003 dhcp server. (8-10 different 2003 networks)

I did a google on this but nothing came up.
It seems allot of people have the problem but not the answer.

Any one here seen this?
Thanks in advance

assuming you have WINS server, it could be the wins configuration issue.

thanks for the response.
What WINS problem are you talking about?

The client doesn't "pull". It simply receives what it is given, that is an
important distinction to keep in mind. From the "Run" line in Win98 run
"Winipcfg", expand the dialog box to see all the details,...see which DHCP
Server it is receiving from.

If it is receivning from the wrong DHCP Server then the network's physical
or logical topology design has a flaw that is letting the machine find the
wrong dhcp server (or the wrong Scope on the right DHCP server). It could be
the Router forwarding the BOOTP packets is doing it incorrectly.

The other possiblility is that the DHCP server's Scope is misconfigured.

Yes,
I know "pull" is not the correct term for this.

This is the only DHCP server on the network.
It will "receive" the correct subnet every so often.
The DHCP server is the correct one. (already checked this with winipcfg on
multiple pc's and different offices.)
This is not just happing at one site. the sites range from a 5 user to 60
user network.

The DHCP scope is configured the same way with the same options that the
Win2k server had. (no problems at that time)
If you have suggestions of what should be in the scope, please pass them on.
Thanks again
