Our school has a Win 2003 server and a lot of windows 98
computers. I used Policy Editor to create policies for
different logins, however it doesn't always work. Some
computers downloads the policy, other don't. Within the
config.pol file I have three groups setup i.e. students,
faculty, and administrator. The plan is to lock out the
control panel and other options for students, give faculty
a little more control of systems settings, and
administrator have full control. Whenever I log in on some
Win98 system as student, the control panel is not
displayed, log out then in as administrator or faculty the
control panel appears. Other Win98 systems the control
panel is not displayed no matter who log ins. Same type
computer, same windows build with the lastest SP and
hotfixes. Any suggestions?????
An other problem I can't figure out is how to keep the
students from install software or deleting application off
the local hard drive. Any clues????

thanks in advance

Win98 was not designed to have the security level you are
looking for. The login in Win98 is easily bypassed (just
click cancel). My suggestion would be to switch your 98
machines to 2000pro.
