Win98: 2 NICs & 1 network

Hello!

Foreword: since English isn't my mother tongue, please excuse mistakes
in spelling or terms. I hope, my posting will be clear anyway.

Now to my problem:

I have a small mobile PC (based on a VIA EPIA motherboard) with a
standard onboard 10/100 NIC and a wireless adapter, too (mounted
*inside* the case!)

If I am in my office or near an outlet, I use the cable, otherwise the
slower WLAN.

Both are in the same network and get the IP address via a dhcp server.

If the lease time of both dhcp entries has expired, everything runs
fine.
But if I use both connections within the lease time, I can't use the
WLAN anymore.

I know, a solution would be create hardware profiles, but this imply
to choose one profile manually at startup of the PC.

Is there a possibility to make some sort of rule or automatism like
"if cable is connected than use LAN else use WLAN"?

Thanks in advance!

Your English is better than many native speakers!

I'm not sure that hardware profiles would help. My suggestion is to
use Winipcfg to renew the IP address on the connection that you want
to use and to release the IP address on the connection that you don't
want to use.

Well, thank you. I've been six times (or half a year!) on vacation in
the US and Canada, but the problem are the technical terms, which you
never learn at school and the whole bunch of menu and option titles,
which I know only in German. So translating this is a kind of reverse
engineering... ;-)

Yes! Just two profiles with the different NICs deactivated in the
device manager (?).

Looks good, I have to test that!
The only drawback is, that even in command line mode there are message
boxes to click away, so it's not 100% automatic. But it's a good point
to start with.

Thanks again!

Roland
