I have 2 win2k servers, both networked One of them will quite happily
connect to the internet all day long, but as soon as you attemot to
access a share on it from another machine, the network connection
collapses. There is no networking, can't connect to internet and the
packets received count resets to 1.

Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Don

Hard to say exactly on so little information. I would guess that it is
a multihomed browser problem. How does the machine connect to the Internet?
Through a dialup connection or a second NIC?

A simple diagram of the network would help.

Internet
|
public IP
server
192.168.1 1 dg blank
|
workstations
192.168.1.x dg 192.168.1.1

Many thanks for the reply Bill.

Diagram:-

Internet
|
ADSL Router (192.168.1.1)
|
Workstations (192.168.1.x)

All other workstations on the network stay up perfectly, it's just
this one.

Yesterday I reformatted the partition with the operating system and
started again, but still have the same problem.

Is the problem server just a simple server with one NIC? No remote access
set up? I have only seen this problem on multihomed machines (either more
than one NIC or a remote access interface).
