Dear fellows,

I am using a Win 2003 Server as workstation [evaluation
kit], instead of a former Windows 2000 server SP4. Problem
is that I can't connect anymore to Samba shares from a
linux filserver I was accessing without problems from the
W2k... PLEASE HELP!

Linux probably has the same problem that older windows and dos clients have.

811497 - Error Message When Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 Client

From the indicated link:

WORKAROUND
Although Microsoft does not recommend it, you can prevent
SMB signing from being required on all domain controllers
that run Windows Server 2003 in a domain. To configure
this security setting, follow these steps:
Open the Default Domain Controllers Policy.
Open the Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security
Settings\Local Policies\Security Options folder.
Locate the Microsoft network server: Digitally sign
communications (always) policy setting, and then click
Disabled or Do Not Configure.

Surprisingly, but the above mentioned security policy
setting it's already "Disabled"!!!

BTW: I believe I was not clear, as my problem can't
possibly be linked to a older windows or dos client. So:
THE CLIENT IS THE WINDOWS 2003 SERVER AND THE FILE-SERVER
IS A SAMBA ON A LINUX RED-HAT 9.0; more, with a windows
2000 server SP 4 as client I had and others still has
access to those samba-sared files. I use windows 2003
server AS A WORKSTATION, so the direction of access is
W2K3 -> Linux and not Linux -> W2K3.

BTW2: The word here is "Don't try anymore, dude. Micro$oft
is doing it on purpose, to send Linux to the grave."

Whatever...

Ask in a Linux newsgroup, I'm sure they can fix you right up.

You have to look for the group on the news server provided by your ISA. You
want one that indicates both Linux and Samba. It is most likely a Samba
problem.

If you use a "web-based" newsgroup interface, then I don't know what to tell
you there, I never use those.

Sorry, ISP, not ISA.
