What on earth can I do? I have upgraded a PC from Win2K --> XPPro which
already came as SP2; so I cannot even return to SP1. Another PC I upgraded
recently I was able to return to SP1 and the Wireless LAN returned to
normality. With SP2 I am stuck; even though I have turned 'on' 64bit WEP
(which was supposed to be a solution? I display all the usual symptons;
connection to the AP is strong but the DHCP server is uanble to allocate IP
addresses etc; no I have manually configured the TCP/IP settings; to no
avail; no data passes seemingky in either direction.

This really makes no sense and I recently upgraded 3 PCs (all different)
from XP SP1 --> SP2 and all were a breeze and the WLAN worked imemdiately
(including DHCP).

Thoughts / help please ?!

Do you mean simply :-

If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2, it is recommended you
repair your Winsock using the following instructions:
1) click Start, click Run and type CMD and click OK.
2) At the command prompt type: netsh winsock reset catalog (and press Enter)
3) At the command prompt type: Exit (and press Enter)

well it didn't work! Nor did another suggestion which was to run
WinsockxpFix.exe which is again supposed to purify your Winsock (which
appears to be the root of the problem).

I believe that shall have to rebuild the PC from OS up; pathetic really

I tried that utility...it did its thing...I rebooted...THEN I got the usual
DNS error...went through the whole rigamarole of settings again, the reset of
the linksys adapter...blah, blah, blah...

and then found that in the adaptor setting it had set the IP address
automatically again....I cleared it...now it's working fine...

at least until next time I reboot and then I'll have to do the same
bullpucky AGAIN.

I don't know what to think...I thought with the evolution of technology,
things were supposed to get easier...

for now, onto the cd_ROMS behaving screwily.

Thanks Microsoft.
