win2003 SP1 DHCP server problem

hi,
I've following problem in DHCP server on a DC running win03 stand. SP1:
After adding some reservations through the MMC snap-in or with the netsh
command, following errors are displayed after closing/re-opening the DHCP MMC
snap-in:
- trying to see leases with MMC: "snap-in failed to initialize"
- trying to see reservations with MMC: nothing happens, a red cross is
displayed
- trying to see reservations with netsh (show reservedip): "DHCP Server
Scope Show ReservedIP failed. Parameter(s) passed are either incomplete or
invalid."

all of this works fine before adding reservations. same errors happen after
adding reservations with "netsh exec" from a dump file containing all
reservations.

strangely, DHCP functionality is OK and my clients receive the correct IP's,
also reservations work! only problem is to add/remove reservations and see
leases.

thank you for help.
Damir

1. Click Start > Run > MMC > OK
2. Click File.
3. Click Add\Remove Snap-in.
4. Click the 'Add' button.
5. Highlight DHCP click Add then Close then OK. Add your server.

hi,
this is not the problem I have. I tried this solution but I still have the
problem.
I can start the DHCP MMC snap-in successfully. the error appears only when I
click the "address leases" tab; also on the "reservations" tab I can see
nothing (red cross displayed). But "scope options" and "exclusions" tabs are
working correctly.
The problem seems deeper, since the "NETSH showreservedIP" command cannot
read any reservations (see error message in my first post).

I have same problem as 'Sion', posted 5/20/2005 11:39 PM PST.

Best regards
Damir

Hello Damir,

did you have a solution for this problem? I did the same effect on one of my
installations!

Dirk

hello DiB,
not yet, I'm still waiting on MS about this issue.
I read that re-installing the adminpak could resolve issue, did you try
this? Mine is a DC.

Hello Damir,

mine is a DC too. But I can´t belive that adminpak reinstallation could
help, because an export with netsh also does´nt work...
Did you open a call by Microsoft?

Dirk

Make sure that you use the correct syntax on the command. I fixed our
problem with using the netsh command to show reserved IPs and noticed a
couple of IP that did not have full MACs addresses. From the netsh command
removed the two reservation entries and from that point on I could access the
GIU snap-in without any problems.

hi,
no, I didn't open a case for the moment.
About reinstalling adminpak: maybe the snapin is corrupting the DHCP
database? so uninstalling DHCP, reinstall adminpak and reinstall DHCP service
could help?
Did you also apply win03 SP1 afterwards? I didn't try DHCP on a win03 server
installed with SP1 intergrated to see if error also appears..
On my side I tried to reinstall DHCP service, then added the reservations
manually: it worked for a moment and then no more! very strange!
This server was a win03 member, adminpak uninstalled before applying SP1,
and SP1 adminpak version reinstalled after SP1.

hi Slimmyslim,
thanks for your post but it doesn't apply in my situation (show reservedip
doesn't work at all, see error message in my first post).

if I add or remove a reservedip with the NETSH command (NOT with the
snap-in), the snap-in and 'netsh show reservedip' work again!
BUT when I add/delete a reservedip with the SNAP-IN, both no more work!!
seems that the DHCP snap-in makes problems when editing reservations...

if someone has an idea, thank you!

Hi Damir,

I have the same problem, but for me it doesn't even matter do I add the
reservation via MMC or using the netsh command - the database gets corrupted
anyway ... :-(

Any news about the problem?
