Hello All, I have been reading
http://groups.google.com.au/group/mi...d4cd1fc29f6791
- and have followed the steps as I am in the same situation. When
assigning users or groups to "Access this Computer from the network" in
"gpedit.msc", I can assign them and they stay in the field for a little
while (around 5 mins) and I can connect to the shared folders through
an XP machine during this period, however the assignments that I make
in this field dissappear or are removed automatically for some reason.
Once they are removed automatically I can gain access to the server
shares.

How can I make these changes in the "Access this computer from the
network" permanant ?

Thank you for your help.

Kind Regards,
Tis me

If all machines are in a workgroup, manually set their Local Sec Policy
(thru Control Panel, Admin Tools), or Local Group Policy (by accessing it
thru start/run, type in gpedit.msc). If in a domain, configure a GPO with
the settings.

Instead of the website you're using, I suggest to use OEx (Outlook Express
or any other newsreader), and configure a news account, pointing to
news.microsoft.com. This is a direct link to the Microsoft Public
Newsgroups. It is FREE and requires NO ISP's Usenet account. OEx allows you
to easily find, track threads, cross-post, sort by date, poster's name,

The problem is an XP machine getting access to the Win2003 shared
folders. Setting the security policy on the XP machines won't have an
effect on accessing the Win2003 server ?

I can't understand why the settings on the Win2003 server ("Access this
computer from the network") keep clearing themselves?

Cheers,

Just want to confirm, this is a workgroup, correct? You may want to disable
the firewall on the XP workstation and any other personal or antivirus
firewalls and see if it works.
