Of course it is possible, Hou!
Just get RedHat Linux, it comes with the best e-mail server
-sedmail-, out of the box. Depending on how sophisticated
proxy services you want, you have 2 choices:
- use Apache in proxy web server mode, you just need
to add 3 or 4 lines to the configuration file in
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf
- if you want a lot of customizable options, use squid
http://www.squid-cache.org, it was developed by the
DARPA DoD agency, the very same one that brought us
hmmm, what was it..., oh yes, the Internet.
You should prehaps familiarize yourself with Samba (disk and printer
sharing), and soon you can have all the Windows machines where they
belong: in user's desk and Linux were it performs at its best:
in the server room.
Good luck and welcome to Linux. You will find the Linux sysadmis
are more helpful and knowledgeable than their Windows counterparts.
