We have a domain (abc.com) runing on Win2003 Std Server (xyz) platform. We
have installed SP2 for Win2003 and found the system is working with the newly
installed SP2. Previouly it had SP1. We have some folders shared on this
computer and regularly using it.
When we ping the system by hostname(xyz) it could not resolve the hostname.
When we try with IP It gives reply. Also, the hostname(xyz) is not showing in
the list of computers on the domain. We tried with NET VIEW command also. But
it is not shown.
I can use the system shared folders by using Run command "\\xyz".
We found the issue only after installing the SP2. Please advise how to
resolve the same.

Hello Shanthi,

If the 2003 is a domain controller it will not be in the computers container,
it is in the domain controllers OU. If you can ping with ip address and not
with comuptername this sounds like a DNS problem. Is the server registered
in the DNS server in forward/reverse lookup zone? Is it configured to use
an external DNS servre on the NIC, then remove it use only domian internal
DNS servers. Also pplease post an unedited ipconfig /aal then we can check
your configuration.

Best regards

To see it using Net View you need to enable Netbios over TCP/IP. Your
ipconfig shows it as disabled.
