That is the way it is supposed to be. It protects the LAN you are connecting
to from the Internet. the risk is created when you machine can see both the
LAN and the Internet at the same time. When VPN is connected, you are
supposed to go through the LAN to get to the Internet that way.
You can disable this by disabling "Use Gateway on Remote Network" in the
dialup connection's settings on the XP-Home machine, but you are creating
risks by doing so.
The proper way to do things is to leave it like it is,...use the VPN when
needed, then cut the VPN connection when done,....and don't fool around on
the Internet while the VPN is up.
