Hi all, I have problems trying to connect my ATMEL USB FastVNET (505A)
Adapter to my Netgear MR814v2 Router. When I look at the devices monitor it
tells me that the SSID field is blank, authentication type is open and
encription is disabled yet when I used windows wirless network wizard I
specified the SSID, shared authenthication and manually entered a 128 bit
WEP key.

I can not manually correct these entries as they are grayed out with the
message current settings are configured by windows.

So does anybody know how to get windows to change these settings or
(perfered) turn of the windows configuration so I can enter the values I want?

You may need to delete the wireless connection and then re-enter it
manually.

Note: Do not run the Wireless Connection Setup Wizard multiple times, this
tends to corrupt the TCP/IP stack and screw things up.

Also, if possible go over to using WPA instead of WEP, and do not broadcast
your SSID. Using WEP and broadcasting your SSID is sort of like using a $5
lock on your front door - it works but won't protect you for long against a
motivated hacker.

You might want to look at the article on Building a Wireless Small Office or
Home Network:
