I am new to windows server 2003 enterprise and currently have 12 xp
pro pc's. The server is going to be set up for file sharing initially
and will replace an XP Pro machine that is currently performing this
function. During testing we are having issues with accessing the
shared folders without having to give a username and password. The
existing system is workgroup based and works good for what we have.
The test system is also set up as a workgroup and the permissions
appear to be set up correctly based on the Windows Server 2003 Inside
and Out book we are using a our reference.

Where are we going wrong?

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Have you duplicated the user accounts on the Win 2k3 server?

You need to create a user on the Win 2k3 server with the same username and
password the user uses to log onto their workstation. Grant that user
account proper access to the shared folder.

If you set up a AD user and give the permissions to that user, then
login to the domain from the workstation with that user, it should work fine
