I am a first time poster
I run a laptop with win XP home on a network with several other computers
some have win 2000 one has win 98 and the newest has win XP pro, they can all
see each other in network places but not the XP machines.
The XP machines can see everything but each other.
I can't seem to find any other suggestionson what to try so am asking the
advice of the group
thanks
Peter

I would check the firewall first. Make sure XP firewall file and printer sharing is enabled. This how to may help, quoted form http://www.howtonetworking.com/Windows/xpicf1.htm

How to Enable File and Printer Sharing in Windows Firewall 1/4
Symptom: 1. No one can't access your XP computer with SP2. 2. When using net view command, you may receive this message: "The Server service is not started".

Cause: A firewall is blocking the File and Printer Sharing.

Solution: You may need to enable File and Printer Sharing in Windows Firewall.

file & printer sharing is enabled tried with the fireall on & off no difference
added netbios proticol and can see the computer and drive now but when
trying to access the documents & settings folder with the list of users I get
told access denied check with administrator
I gave full permissions when i set up file sharing [at least I thought I
did] and enabled network users can change files

thanks
