Have tried many things, registry changes, to speed up my cable internet
connection but have only managed to make things worse than they were. Does
anyone know how to get windows xp home, to return to the original settings
provided, short of actually re-installing windows, which I do not want to
do. Thanks for any help.

visit www.dslreports.com and run the tweak test.
the is also a small prog on there calld Drtcp to change the registry values
i've got an 8Mbps adsl connection and found the site very usefull
when you've done that i've found this reg tweak helps pages load a lot faster
a simple way of explaining it is
say you we're opening a web page with 50 pictures on it ie normaly only
loads one or two pics at a time, this tweak loads 30 at a time

[HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Internet
Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000030
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000030

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet
Settings]
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000030
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000030
