Win needs a new IP

Laptop with Win XP sp2 and Linksys wpc54g - wap54g connected to befsr41.

Signalstrength fine and time of connection is counting up just fine. Works for hours.
But - every 20-30 min there´s no connection to the Internet - but still signalstrength
and connection is listed to be ok.

If i rightclick on icon and do "Rapair" it works again.
Sometimes before that, Win pops up saying, that it needs a new IP-address.

How comes please ?

I have Win to controll the connection - not Linksys Manager.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

Kim

I never even got that far with a Linksys WAP54G behind a D-Link DI-704UP.
Frustrated me for six hours before I gave up and had the friend I was
helping exchange the WAP54G for a D-Link DWL-2100A. I had that running in
less than thirty minutes. Enough of my horror stories...

Is the Laptop configured to keep the connection alive? Can it be so
configured? Can the Linksys BEFSR41 DHCP server be configured for a maximum
lease period? It really sounds like the laptop is not able to automatically
renew an expired lease, for some reason.

Thanks for your reply.
Not sure if the Laptop can be configured to keep connection alive.

What i can find is:
Fragmentation Threshold - 4096
Mode4x - ON
Network Type - 11g
Power Mode - Continuous Access Mode (maybe its it?)
RTS Threshold - 4096

The BEFSR41 DHCP is configured to maximum lease, which is 1 day.

Good point, but it is configured to automatic logon on my network only
using WPA.
And all the time the counter for time of connection is counting and the
signalstrenth says very good.
Problem is as the previous author pointed out, that the Laptop is not
able to automatically renew an expired lease.

Why it expires and why it cannot be renewed seems to be the problem.

well, try manually renewing and see if it gives any error message. also
check event logs for network or dhcp errors.

If i pull out the netcard and reinsert it, then the connection works again.

Still, at all times - the connection is said to be "Very Good" and the
time connected counting.

I tried something else: I gave the Laptop a fixed IP.

LAN-side of router 192.168.1.1
DHCP starts with adress 192.168.1.100

So i configured the Laptop:
IP: 192.168.1.2
Gateway 192.168.1.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
DNS for my ISP.

Works fine for a while.
But still - after some time, theres no connection. Connection is still
listed to be "Very Good" - but no Internet and i cant use printers on our LAN.

Any ideas please ?

Kim
