I recently installed Mandrake into my computer and I noticed
my modem did not configure. It's most likely because it's
a win modem.
This is my modem:

Intel(R) 537EP V9x DF PCI Modem

Does anyone know whether or not it's a
win modem?

Thanx in advance

Alan

It's a winmodem, but very easy in linux. If you have kernel 2.4
(ithink) or greater,
The drivers are here:
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scri...9&submit=Go%21

This was my first succesful winmodem setup in linux!

The problem is that this does not work with Mandrake 10.1
I get the following error message when I enter make 537:

[root@localhost intel-537EP-2.60.80.0-mdk10-smp]# make 537
Module precompile check
Current running kernel is: 2.6.8.1-12mdk
/lib/modules... autoconf.h does not exist
please install kernel source
make: *** [check] Error 1

Any suggestions?

Thanx in advance

Alan

Look around the other drivers at Intel. If it doesn't work from there,
try getting the kernel source. I installed easily on FC2, which comes
with source. Try whatever it takes, this is possiblle!

I think the error says it all: install the kernel source...

I think there should be something like kernel-source-2.6.8 in the mandrake
package manager (don't know mandrake, but i'm sure there exists something
like a packet manager...)

Go here:
http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/
and try the scanModem tool. It got me up and running.

I downloaded the wrong package. The one for my kernel was there
at the bottom of the page.
