I have used my win98SE desktop PC attached to a wired DSL
network for several years. I recently moved, and the cable
boraodband I now have would suit a wireless network better
than wored as I had before. The main PC is an Xp Pro, the
second a 98Se. The 98SE PC has a 3com NIC (works fine),
but when I try to install a Netgear WG311 PCI wireless
adapter, the computer hangs on reboot. I tried several PCI
slots with the same result. I did manage once or twice to
boot to windows, but it did not find the new hardware
(manually or automatically). The card is supposed to be
Win98SE compatible, and I have the latest Bios, drivers,
etc installed. Why would the 3com Nic work but not the
wireless adapter? Any ideas? Thanks

I am no expert, but I think you need to completely remove
the 3com NIC software and hardware before you install the
Netgear wireless adapter. I recently changed one of my Win98se
laptops from wireless to wired and that was the procedure I
ended up following. (Remove existing NIC before installing
the other NIC.)
