Hi,

I want to setup a network with a Win 98 host (with ADSL,
printer) and Win XP on the client using home network.

I have run network setup wizard but the Win 98 host cant
see the Win XP cleint. The XP client can see the Win 98
hot but cannot access it.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Am I flogginga dead horse trying to use Win 98SE as a
host??

Thanks for your time.

Run the Network Setup wizard again on XP. If the Wizard detects the
shared Win 98SE Internet connection, tell it to use that connection.
if it doesn't, tell it that XP connects to the Internet through
another computer on the network.

If you've installed a firewall program on XP, make sure that it's
configured to allow access by other computers on the LAN.

Make sure that NetBIOS over TCP/IP is enabled on both computers:

Enable NetBIOS Over TCP/IP (NetBT)

Those steps should get everything working.

I have followed your advice Steve but still have no joy.
the 98 server can see my xp laptop but not the other way.
I can only see the other xp machine on the network. I
have network bridge, 1394, Lan and wireless as network
connections. I also seem to have lost the advanced tab
from the LAN connection for the firewall. Will need it
back as will be using the laptop on dial up from time to
time.

Hope that you can help.
Thanks

Ian

Right-click and delete the network bridge. That will restore the
Advanced tab to the LAN connection.
